Obituary

Richard Alexander Rainka passed away on May 15, 2015. He was born August 16, 1941 in Albany, NY to the late Alexander J. Rainka and Harriet Daniels Rainka.

Rich attended The Albany Academy in Albany, NY and being an avid sportsman he played varsity football, basketball and baseball. He was also a Cadet Major of the Academy Battalion and graduated in 1959. Rich attended college at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY and graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology.

He furthered his studies at Temple University in Philadelphia and graduated in 1967 from the Kornberg School of Dentistry earning his DDS. Rich served as a Captain in the US Army at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and worked as a dentist. In 1989 the family moved to Florida and Rich worked as a real estate broker/associate for Adams Cameron & Co, RE/MAX, and most recently Keller Williams Realty in Port Orange, Florida.

Rich is survived by his wife, Mary Beth, and his seven children, Jennifer Rainka-Casey (Jerry), Richard A. Rainka, Gregory C. Rainka, Katie E. Rainka-Troncoso (Wences), Kellie A. Rainka, Allison L. Rainka-Welliver (Dillon) and Michael J. Rainka. Rich is also survived by seven grandchildren and one grandchild in utero.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Port Orange, FL on Thursday June 4, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. Interment with full military honors will be held at 1:00 P.M. at Daytona Memorial Park.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be greatly appreciated to the Chromosome 18 Registry and Research Society, 7155 Oakridge Dr., San Antonio, TX 78229. Please indicate in memory of Richard A. Rainka. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange.
