Richard "Dick" Meyers 61 passed away on June 22 2013 at his home in Spruce creek Fly-In surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania on December 14 1951 to Ditten Meyers and Richard Nelson and later adopted by his stepfather Don Meyers. Growing up in Madison Indiana Dick learned to fly at a very young age taught by his stepfather inspiring a lifetime love of aviation.

After graduating from Hanover College in his hometown he began his career as an instructor and charter pilot leading to a 25 years at American Trans Airlines. As a captain for ATA Dick delivered both passengers and American troops all over the world. Dick was also a boat captain aircraft mechanic and helicopter pilot and enjoyed sailing and working on his own airplanes. Among his many accomplishments he flew his own single-engine plane to Norway to see his family there and to challenge his flying skills. He had the opportunity to fly many diverse aircraft and logged just shy of 20 000 hours at work and with his many pilot friends and students. Dick finished his flying career in the corporate world as a captain and chief pilot as well as an instructor. He will be remembered by friends as an unusually gifted pilot and an amazing teacher mentor and friend.
Over all the miles though Dick was still a family man at heart and after much encouragement from his parents Don and Ditten Meyers; he met his beloved wife Denyse at the Spruce Creek Country Club in 2004. They were married on March 17 2007.

They shared nearly 10 years of love and adventures. They travelled they flew and they sailed and hosted friends often. Dick always welcomed friends both new and enduring.
There are people in the world who are here to simply be happy - to make sure that every morning is greeted with good cheer and that everyone they meet feels immediately like adored family.

His parents Don and Ditten Meyers preceded Dick in death. He will be missed by his wife Denyse; stepdaughter Bryn Scarborough and husband Rich; grandson Kyle Scarborough; sister Ellie Meyers Hoffman husband Ron; stepsister Karen Meyers Roberts husband Michael; three nieces Kristi Roberts Ellis and husband Bryan; Annie Harrison and husband Rob; Kate Hoffman and husband Ben; nephew Marc Roberts wife Lara; four great-nieces and two great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Vista Hospice of Volusia/Port Orange whose staff made Dick's final flight an easier one.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday October 19 2013 in Spruce Creek Fly-in at the tree at 2:00PM followed by a reception at their home.
