Richard McDowell, 78, of Port Orange, FL died Friday, June 7, 2013.
He was born on July 31, 1934 in Newburgh, NY to Robert and Antoinette McDowell. After attending Poughkeepsie schools, he enlisted in the US Navy where he received awards for his outstanding service. He proudly served aboard the USS New Jersey during the Korean Conflict. Richard attended many of the ship's reunions while serving on its committee. Richard enjoyed many years of bowling at the Mardi Bob and playing softball for IBM. After retiring from IBM, he moved to Port Orange, FL. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Richard enjoyed working at the Daytona 500.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; daughter, Debbie (Peter); sons, Rick and John; grandchildren, Eric, Scott, Harmony, Bailey, Addison, step-grandchildren, Andrew and Laura, brothers, Joseph (Judy), Ronald (Sue) and David (Jennifer). He was predeceased by wives Janis and Millie and brother Robert.
Per Richard's request, there will be no services. Memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation . "Fair winds and a following sea."
