Richard Michael McCarthy, 69, died peacefully at home in Port Orange, FL on December 1, 2022 surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. The Funeral will be held on Saturday January 7, 2023 at Lohman's Funeral Home Daytona, 1423 Bellevue Ave, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. The viewing will start at 12:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. and burial at 2:00 p.m. A celebration of his life will follow starting at 3:00 p.m. at Riverside Pavilions, 3431 S. Ridgewood Ave, Port Orange, FL 32129. All are welcome.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his fiance, Suzanne Borwick; also, his former wife, Janice McCarthy and their son, Michael McCarthy (Lindsay); grandchildren, Tyler and Ember McCarthy; his only brother Thomas McCarthy (Cheri) of Dillon, MT; and his nieces, Monica Kettler (Alec) and Mandi Cain (Jacob) and nephew, Ralph McCarthy.

Rich was born on December 8, 1952, to Richard M. and Ruth McCarthy, in Cleveland, OH. He graduated from Mentor High School in 1971 then moved to Daytona Beach, FL to enter the workforce as a mixologist. He had many interests, but building successful businesses was his main passion. He moved to Denver, CO in 1975 and started his career there as, "Friendly Dan the TV Man." He started as a repo man and eventually earned ownership in the company and helped them expand into new markets. When he got his real estate license in 1984, he became a realtor with Coldwell Banker and was Rookie of the Year. Within a year he worked his way up to management with them and eventually was top management with several offices in Colorado. Then in 1993, he saw an opportunity with a newer company called Keller Williams Realty (KW). Rich was instrumental in bringing KW to the Colorado market. Again, opportunity came knocking and he made the move to purchase the KW Greater Pennsylvania region. Under his leadership, the region grew to 46 offices in a few short years. Rich handed the KW reins over to his son, Mike, in 2004 and moved to Florida to pursue a new business opportunity in his "retirement." Not one to sit around, he decided to open a brewery and restaurant called Tomoka. Rich loved to travel and go on cruises. He visited Ireland, Finland, Japan, St. Lucia and had many other wonderful trips with family and friends. Rich was also an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed a round of golf and loved to watch all sports, especially when he had a wager going. He was also passionate about cars. In his later years, he gathered quite the collection including a classic 1965 Corvette and a 2020 Mercedes AMG GT 63S. As Rich gained more and more success in life, he never forgot where he came from and was always generous with his blessings. He was quick to support charities, help others start businesses or help them improve their lives by paying for education, transportation or a much needed vacation. He was also always generous with a pour from a liquor bottle; he rarely let your glass run dry. He was a great man to have on your side and will be dearly missed by the many who called him a friend and especially missed by those lucky enough to call him family.
