Richard L.  Klem, Sr.

April 30, 1940 ~ December 14, 2021

Richard Louis Klem Sr. passed peacefully in his home and rejoined his beloved wife Mary Francis Klem on December 14, 2021. In Richard's wake he leaves behind three sons, Richard Klem, Jr. (Heidi), Robert Louis Klem (Kimberly), and Donald Curtis Klem (Juliene). He was also blessed with and adored by seven grandchildren, Erin McGuire, Katlyn Borzner, Kyle McGuire, Nicole Morris, Brent Patrick Sullivan, Jessica Shae Klem, and Andrew Klem. Richard or better known as Ampa also leaves behind seven great grandchildren, Hunter, Brody, Colin, Caleb, Mazie, and Benjamin.

Richard Louis Klem was born in Kalamazoo Michigan on April 30, 1940. His parents, Louis Henry Klem and Gale Verna Myers raised Richard along with his three siblings, Barbara, LaVerda, and Robert in Kalamazoo. Richard left for the United States Air Force after graduating from Delton High School in 1958. After his service in communications/radio operator for the United States Air Force Richard moved to Daytona Beach, Fl. He became a Daytona Beach Police Officer and that is also where he met his wife of 57 years, Mary Pruitt, as she was a clerk for the police station. Richard and Mary got married on August 30 th 1963 and moved into their South Daytona home where they were to raise their three sons. Richard coached all three boys in golf, basketball, baseball, and football, all while working as patrolman, motorman, and then retiring as a Sgt. from the Daytona Beach Police Department. Shortly after retiring Richard decided to continue his career in law enforcement as an investigator for state attorneys office.

Richard enjoyed golfing, cruising, traveling, softball, and his gambling trips with close friends.

Richard will be laid to rest next to beloved bride on Wednesday December 22 nd , 2021at 1pm. His service will be held at Daytona Memorial Park South located at 1425 Bellevue Ave., Daytona Beach, Fl 32114.  A Visitation will be held from 12:00pm until the Graveside Service begins at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona, 1423 Bellevue Avenue.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers and sentiments that you donate to a local sports team this holiday season. Richard was a man of the community and what better way to honor his legacy.
