Richard P. King 82 passed away June 8 2010. A Memorial Mass will be held at Church of the Epiphany (201 Lafayette St. Port Orange) on Saturday June 19 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Richard was born in Altoona Pennsylvania on December 5 1927. He retired after 25 years with the Secret Service in Washington D.C. having served under six presidents. Prior to joining the Executive Protective Service in December 1950 Richard served in the Navy as a hospital corpsmen. He received the World War II Victory Metal upon honorable discharge in 1948. After his discharge he worked in Washington D.C. as a local police officer. During his Secret Service career Richard served in a supervisory capacity at the White House and foreign missions divisions in the Washington D.C. area. He attended George Washington University Maryland University and American University. He graduated from the FBI National Academy in June 1966. He has spent most of his life in Washington D.C. Maryland New Mexico and has lived in this area for the past 30 years. Richard was pre-deceased by his father William C. King his mother Marie (Pillet) King and his brother Robert King. He is survived by his wife Kay King Port Orange; son Terry King Virginia; granddaughter Sophie King Virginia; sister Janet Stiffler Maryland; brother Tom King Georgia; nephew Jeff King Pennsylvania; as well as five other nieces and nephews; stepson Darrick Bonner Florida; and stepdaughter Kelly Orozco and her children Leo & Olivia Washington. Richard leaves us with sad hearts but wonderful memories. We will all miss his political debates his love of collecting his quick wit and his caring nature. He loved sharing his stories with family and friends the silence will be deafening in his absence. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Kidney Foundation .
