Richard 'Dick' Hartsel Sr., 88, of Port Orange and formerly of Pennsburg, PA, Denver, CO, and Toledo, OH, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2015.
Dick was the widower of Amy G. Hartsel (Gora); brother of Shirley Morrows; father of Rita (wife of John O'Brien), Cathy (wife of Jason Pratt), Judy (wife of John Parker), Amy (wife of Don Devine), and Richard Jr. (husband of Jo Marie); step-father to Franca (wife of Phillip Champine), and Brenda (wife of John Durliat); grandfather of 13; and great-grandfather of 17.
Dick served his country during WWII and was stationed in Korea. Upon coming home, he worked at Rossford Ordnance Depot in Toledo. He then worked for Sperry Univac/Unisys where he worked on early computer programs for the Pentagon, Esquire Magazine, Disney/ Epcot, and the Daytona Police Department, retiring in 1989.
Dick started a second career working for the Daytona Beach News-Journal, retiring from there in the 1990s. Dick was an avid fisherman spending many hours on the Critter Fleet and Daytona's Beaches.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015 in the chapel of Lohman Funeral Home Daytona.
