Obituary

Richard (Pop-Pop) A. France (age 74) of Ormond Beach, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, 1000 Ocean Shore Boulevard in Ormond Beach. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 4, from 5-7 p.m. at St. Brendan Church. Richard was born on May 11, 1943, to the late Joseph Martin France and Veronica Czarski France in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and graduated from Loyola University of Maryland and University of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental Surgery with the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. After dental school he was stationed as Captain in the United States Air Force in Orlando, FL. For 43 years he was an active member of St. Brendan Catholic Church where he served in various volunteer capacities. Before his retirement from the practice of family dentistry in 2007, he was actively involved in local, regional and national dental societies helping to serve a profession he loved. On September 3, 1967 Richard married his high school sweetheart, Josephine (Josie) Anselmi and recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He was a role model for his two daughters and four grandchildren by teaching them the importance of commitment to faith and family. Richard will be remembered for his endearing smile (he was a dentist, after all), his generous spirit, that sharp wit, inimitable sense of humor and unbridled passion for "all things Baltimore", especially the Orioles There were no strangers in his life, only people who had not yet been left laughing by one of his jokes. His 50 years of marriage to Josie, 33 years of practicing family dentistry and lifetime devotion to his Catholic Faith were strengthened by his humility. After recovering from bypass surgery in 2002, Richard vowed to make the most of every extra day that God had granted him. His family, his Church and the entire community benefited from his doing just that. He is survived by his wife, Josie; their daughters Dr. Kristen Valliant and husband Sean (Mandeville, LA); Dr. Karin Hilsabeck and husband Charles (Phoenix, AZ); grandchildren Michael, Sarah Kate, Ava and Ellie; and brother, Dr. Joseph M. France and wife Jane; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Brendan Catholic School, 1000 Ocean Shore Boulevard, Ormond Beach, FL 32176 or to the American Heart Association , donatenow.heart.org . Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond.  Condolences and memories are welcome to be shared with the family via this online guestbook.
