ORMOND BEACH - Richard "Rick" Banker passed away on June 3, 2024. Rick was born on Jan. 8, 1942 in Columbus, Ohio to Harold and Wilberta Banker. While attending West High School, Rick was an MVP football and basketball player and was voted "Best All Around" by his classmates during his senior year. It was during this time that he fell in love with his classmate and love of his life, Pam.

In January, 1977, Rick moved his family to Ormond Beach to start a sunglass business, Capo Inc. Under his leadership, Capo, Inc. grew to be one of the largest sunglass distributors in the United States with over 300 employees who Rick referred to as his "Capo Family". From 1997-1999, Rick served as President of the Sunglass Association of America, and in 2001 Rick was inducted into the Sunglass Hall of Fame and given a life-time membership. In 2005, Rick was inducted into the Volusia Manufacturers Association Hall of Fame and awarded the "Manny" Life-Time Achievement Award.

He served as Director and Chairman of the Florida Hospital Memorial Foundation, Director of the Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, Chairman of the Ormond Beach Budget Advisory Board, Director of the Halifax Humane Society, Board Member of Futures Foundation - An Alliance for Education, and spent many years as a member of the Ormond Beach Rotary Club.
Rick never met a stranger and had a lifetime of friends who brought a tremendous amount of joy to his life. As an avid traveler, Rick enjoyed spending time touring the world with his friends and family.
Rick is survived by Pam, his wife of 59 years, his children, Matthew Banker and Nicole Anderson, (Son-in-law Frank Anderson, III) his granddaughters, Emily and Eleanor Anderson, and was predeceased by his grandson, Frank N. Anderson, IV.
