Obituary

A Funeral Service for Rhoda L. Silverstein 84 of Ormond Beach who passed away on September 30 2008 surrounded by her loving family will be held at 4:00pm Thursday October 2 2008 at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach FL with the family receiving friends from 4:00 to 7:00pm after the service. Rhoda was born Rhoda Leah Herman on February 25 1924 in Pittsburgh PA. Shortly after graduation from High School in 1942 Rhoda met the love of her life Leonard Silverstein. Rhoda & Leonard were joined in marriage on June 10 1945 in Pittsburgh PA. After the marriage ceremony Rhoda and her husband moved to Akron OH where they preceded to establish a home and raise a family. In the early years of marriage Rhoda was a loving wife and mother. In the middle years Rhoda not only remained a loving wife and devoted mother but took on the responsibility of a secretary in the Akron Public School system where she was a friend to every student that entered her office. In the later years she became a guide to the John F. Seiberling Family estate Stan Hywet Hall and an active member and frequent award winner in the Ohio Orchard Society. In the spring of 1999 Rhoda and her husband retired to Ormond Beach FL where they became active in the training of seeing eye dogs for Southeast Guide Dogs. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Leonard; her daughter Jill and her brother Bill. She is survived by her sons: Alan & his wife Melana and Michael & his wife Laura; her grandchildren: Jason Silverstein Ann Motil & Andrea Silverstein; great-grandchildren: Matthew & Abigail Motil; and a sister Harriett Kronick of Virginia Beach VA. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Memorial Fund of Hospice of Volusia/Flagler 3800 Woodbriar Trail Port Orange FL 32129. The family would like to express a special thanks to Fran McConnel hospice nurse and Mary Holiday visiting volunteer for their loving care and support.
