A Memorial Service for Raymond C. Keros 83 of Port Orange FL who passed away on September 8 2009 at Halifax Hospital in Port Orange will be held at 2:00PM Saturday September 12 2009 at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach FL with inurnment to follow at Daytona Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:30 to 2:00pm at the funeral home prior to the service. Born in Detroit MI on June 9 1926 to Gust & Grace Keros Raymond is most well known for his family introducing the Coney Island Hot Dog to the Midwest. Mr. Keros was instrumental in developing the family business making it an institution in the Detroit area. To this day some 99 years later the business remains in its original location in Detroit. He was the Co-manager of the American Coney Island in Detroit (founded in 1910) Co-owner of Northland Coney Island in Detroit from 1968 to 1985 and an Ice Cream vendor in Daytona Beach form 1985 to 2006. He was a graduate of St. Cecelia High School in Detroit and earned his Bachelors Degree in Arts from Western Michigan University. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Though he retired to Florida with his wife Joan in 1985 he remained active as an ice cream vendor on Daytona Beach until 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents brothers: Nicholas George and Joseph and a son Barton and his survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years Joan of Port Orange; a son Joseph (Mary ); his daughters: Noreen Hull (Dr. John) and Zoe Furgison (Dr. Clifford); grandchildren: Michael Matthew Holly Tracie and 4 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Charles Lucille and Alice.
