Raymond Joseph Gully age 89 passed away on March 8 2011. Raymond was born in North Dakota on March 4 1922 to Matthew and Caroline Gully. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A ""Celebration of Life"" in Raymond's honor will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 12 2011 with the family accepting friends and family one hour prior to the service at Cardwell Funeral Home 3571 Ridgewood Avenue Port Orange FL 32129.
He attended high school in Lidgerwood North Dakota and then continued his education at North Dakota State University following service in the US Army in World War II graduating with a civil engineering degree. He worked for 30 years as a Civil Engineer with Peter Kewitt & Sons. Before retiring his final job was as Project Manager in the building of the Ft. McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore MD which opened on November 23 1985. The tunnel cost $750 million to build and construction took 5 1/2 years. It is still the widest underwater tunnel in the world.
Mr. Gully loved his family and friends. He loved the outdoors especially fishing farming and spending time at his summer home in Sackets Harbor New York which he built on the shore of Lake Ontario. He also loved the United States and visited all 50 states during his lifetime. Those left to cherish his memory are special friend and companion Dianne Voelkl; one
daughter Donna Rae Whitley and spouse William Sr.; two sons Stephen John Gully and spouse Barbara and Edward Henry Gully and spouse Toni; three grandchildren Michael Ray Gully William Kinder Whitley Jr. and spouse Miranda and Alison Anne Whitley. Also surviving are two brothers William Norbert and Aloysius Leo; as well as three sisters Mary Louise Dorr Josephine Annabel Nunberg and Barbara Clair Irvine; as well as several nieces and nephews. Raymond is preceded in death by his parents; one son Murray Matthew Gully; three brothers John Matthew Clifford Adolph and Daniel James; and one sister Irene Marie Vaplon.
