Obituary

Raymond M. Cass 81 of Daytona Beach passed away on August 31 2008. A Celebration of life will be held in the chapel of Baggett-Summers Funeral Home 736 S. Beach Street Daytona Beach at 2:00 pm Friday September 5 2008.

After growing up in New Haven Conn. He enlisted in the Army at age 17. He served in the 101st Airborne Division and saw action from D-Day through the end of the war in Europe and the occupation of Germany. From 1948-1950 he was also in the United States Marine Corps.

After World War II he studied history and geology and played football for Rutgers University and Florida State. When the Korean Conflict arose he went back into the Army as an Officer in the Tank Corp. where he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. After several years as a police officer and as an investigator with the Florida State Attorneys office. He attended law school at Stetson University graduating in 1971. Ray was an Asst. Public Defender for Volusia County for 23 years and in private practice for 14 years. He practiced law in Daytona Beach for 37 years. Ray enjoyed golfing and reading.

He is preceded in death by his son Raymond. Survivors include his loving wife Sharon of 17 years; his son Mark (Carol) Cass San Marcos California; step-son Larry (Anne) Gunion Port Orange; and his step-daughter Melissa (Matthew) Magnes Altamonte Springs; sisters Shirley Smith Wallingford Connecticut Alice Mohr Kodak Tennessee; several grandchildren; & several great-grandchildren.
