Rand W. Newby Jr. 75 passed away July 12 2013. A funeral service will be held on Saturday July 20 2013 at 1:00 P.M at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona 1423 Bellevue Ave Daytona Beach FL 32114. Interment will follow at Daytona Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M until the time of service on Saturday July 20 2013. Rand came to this area in March of 1982 from Vidalia Georgia. He was born in Franklin Virginia. In 1954 he won the Arkansas Class A high school golf championship both as the medalist and also was a member of the winning team. He graduated from Shorter College in Rome Georgia in 1962 where he majored in history with a B.A. Degree. Mr. Newby worked as a store manager for the S & H Greenstamp Company in Pennsylvania Georgia and Florida. Rand was a Master Mason in Triangle Lodge number 748 Columbus Ohio and had a dual membership with Ormond Beach Lodge number 326. He was a 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh P.A and he was a member of the Shrine at Syria Mosque Pittsburgh P.A. Rand was a member of Riverbend Community Church of Ormond Beach and First United Methodist Church of Ormond Beach. Rand will be laid to rest next to his beloved mother and father in the family plot at Daytona Memorial Park. He is predeceased by his aunt Margaret Stallman. Those left to cherish Rand's memory are his closest friend Richard Adams; many cousins including Richard Watkey Joseph Watkey and Julie Henes. Julie visited Rand repeatedly over the years and they shared a very close and special relationship she will miss him dearly. Other surviving relatives include Paula "Polly" Lynn Templeton of Pennsylvania Patricia T. Whalen of Pennsylvania Dr. I. W. Templeton of Palm Beach Florida Rand Templeton of Houston Texas and Dr. Paul Templeton of Pennsylvania. Rand will also be remembered by friends and neighbors Bobbie Chieppa Charles Stubbard Janette Rakes and a good friend from college James Worth of Virginia.
