Ralph Hunnefeld 83 died Tuesday February 15 after a brief bout with cancer. He died with his children and wife by his side holding his hand. A devoted husband and father Ralph is survived by his wife Mary; his sisters Rose and Joan; and his brother Norbert. He is survived by 7 children Debbie (Jim) McNerney DeLand; Michelle Hunnefeld Oregon; Kathy Ruiz Ormond Beach; Patricia Alongi Ormond Beach; Bob (Cindy) Hunnefeld Ormond Beach; Tom (Lorraine) Hunnefeld Ormond Beach; Julie (Steve) Lopresti Ormond Beach; and stepson Randy Ennis Port Orange. Ralph was also predeceased by his first wife Patricia and his son Ralph E. (Rheda) Hunnefeld. Along with 18 wonderful grandchildren he was blessed with 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Born in Seymour Indiana in October 1927 to Fred and Emma Hunnefeld he was one of 10 children. Ralph served in the Navy after World War II and moved to Daytona Beach in 1966 while working for General Electric. He was most proud that one of his projects here included working on the Apollo mission. Ralph served as an accountant and auditor during his 35 years with GE and finally retired in 1989. He was very involved with Prince of Peace Church and helped organize the initial funding and building of that church. He was a fixture there especially during the early years of the Octoberfest. He stayed true to his faith and his family and showed his devotion to his first wife Patricia by caring for her during her time of great need. In happier times he enjoyed traveling with his wife Mary and enjoying a beer with family at his fish camp. He valued his many friends from Church and the companionship at the American Legion. Ralph was also a member of the VFW Elks and the Moose club. He was especially proud of his service in the military and respected others who shared that honor. His laughter and sense of humor lighted every room and his children are fortunate to have inherited that gift. His family will not soon forget what he did for all of them whenever they needed him. The family would prefer donations made in Ralph's name in lieu of flowers to that fine place. Arrangements are under the entrusted care of Cardwell Funeral Home. A viewing at the Ormond Beach Lohmans Funeral Home on Granada Avenue will be from 6pm - 8pm on Tuesday February 22 and a Funeral Mass will occur on Wednesday February 23 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church at 10AM.
