Phyllis Affinito 67 of Deland FL. died suddenly on October 14 2011 at Florida Hospital Deland. Phyllis born in 1943 was the daughter of the late Mary and James Affinito Italian Americans of the Bronx NY. She attended Catholic elementary and high schools in the diverse immigrant community of the NYC Bronx borough. She married in 1963 and lived in Southeast Asia and Texas with her young and growing family before settling in Ringwood NJ. Phyllis returned to school while raising her family and graduated from Ramapo College of NJ in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology. She was politically active and favored a progressive and feminist politic. Following graduation from college she worked in a NYC law firm and later moved to Miami FL where she was employed as the office administrator for the national law firm of McDermott Will and Emery until her retirement in 2006. Phyllis then moved to Deland FL to be closer to her daughter and her family to be able to spend more time with her sons and their families and to pursue her various interests. Phyllis was a loving daughter mother grandmother and friend whose humor and generous spirit is remembered by all. An avid reader she kept up with politics novels and non fiction works. She was technically savvy preferring her ipad to hardcovers and her emails to snailmail. Phyllis defied convention she was a renaissance woman who could change your car tire make her grandchild a Halloween costume and treat everyone to a home cooked dinner. Her kindness in words and actions is legendary. Phyllis's greatest love was her family and friends. She shared her time with all those she loved and she enjoyed every moment spent with them. She enjoyed traveling taking her last trip to Europe Greece and Turkey where she was moved by the architecture the outdoor markets and the energy of Istanbul. Phyllis is survived by her sons Robert Omark Jr. his wife Shannon of Illinois Richard Omark and his wife Kim of Georgia and her daughter Robin Cosker and husband John of Florida. She has a surviving brother John Affinito of California and a nephew Jim also of California. Phyllis was the active and adoring grandmother to her six grandchildren Chase Ty Rachel Kendall Deven and Morgan. She also leaves behind many special and close friends whose hearts and souls were touched by her kindness and spirit. Visitation will be held October 18 2011 from 12 noon until the Service of Remembrance at 1:00 pm at the Lohman Funeral Home Deland 935 E. New York Ave Deland Fl.
