October 25, 1941 – June 3, 2025
Espiritu "Perry" Lumapas Yap, 83, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2025. He was born on October 25, 1941 in Bogo City, Cebu, Philippines. Perry earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Feati University in Manila, along with his certifications to practice as a Professional Engineer in both the Philippines and the United States. He was a Second Lieutenant with the Philippine Air Force.
Perry came to America in 1967 in search of opportunity for his young family and future children and grandchildren. He first worked as a Project Engineer in Seattle for the Boeing Company, where he assisted in the design of the 747 jet airplane, amongst other commercial plane models. He soon developed an expertise in HVAC and gas engineering operations and design, and was credited with the development of the first polymer concrete manhole system for use in New York City's gas system when he was employed with Con Edison.
Perry was an active member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, in Palm Coast, Florida, where he was part of the church choir and also served communion to congregants. In his nonworking hours, he enjoyed fishing, carpentry, gardening, military history, singing, ballroom dance, and spending time outdoors. Perry was a man of deep faith and also valued immensely time spent with his family.
Perry is survived by his loving wife, Concepcion Lugtu Yap; son, Noel Yap (wife, Jasmine Wu-Yap); son, Nathaniel "Nat" Yap (husband, Brian Smith); son, Christopher Yap (wife, Leann Yap); sister, Josefina Yap Lepatan; sister, Virginia Yap Fidellaga; sister, Eugenia Yap Aton; brother, Crisanto Lumapas Yap; brother, Vicente Lumapas Yap; grandson, Orion Yap; granddaughter, Violetta Yap; grandson, Damian Smith-Yap; granddaughter, Elena Smith-Yap; granddaughter, Mia Yap; granddaughter, Lily Yap; and other extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugenio and Gregoria Yap; brother, Fernando Yap; brother, Benedicto Yap; sister, Fructosa Yap Licayan; brother, Severino Lumapas Yap; sister, Consorcia Yap Tecson; and sister, Remedios Yap Ortega.
There will be a viewing on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 9:30am at Lohman Funeral Home, located at 220 Palm Coast Parkway SW, Palm Coast, Florida 32137. Following the viewing, a mass of Christian Burial will occur, also on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 11am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church located at 4600 Belle Terre Parkway, Palm Coast, Florida 32164.
