Percy St. George Thomas was born on the 4 ^th September 1950 in Bernard Lodge Spanish Town in St. Catherine, Jamaica, and passed on the 14 ^th of June 2022. He was one of nine children, seven girls and two boys (including himself) and was my big brother and my only brother. Percy was a welder by trade, but not just any welder, he was a specialist. He worked on the North Sea Oil pipeline whilst in the UK in the mid-seventies he welded the actual pipe; that crude oil was going to be pumped through to the UK mainland. Even back then, he was a hard worker and loved his job and loved to work.

When he arrived in the USA, he continued in this trade for over 35 years. He told me, he used a laser technique to weld inside the space shuttle reusable fuel tanks. He was a funny guy and liked to laugh. He loved a debate and certainly called you out if you were doing something wrong. He loved his sport, and we could talk for hours about the Cricket and the Premier League. The last debate we had was about whether Liverpool or Real Madrid would win the champions league final. I was confident it would be Liverpool; he was confident it would be Real Madrid. It turned out he was right. He was a generous man and a fair one. He loved his mother too, who passed just six months ago. He demonstrated that in practical ways without fanfare or the seeking of approval. He did what was right by her.

One of the earliest memories I had was when I was around 9 or 10 and Percy brought home some Chinese food for the first time; it was just egg fried rice, but I remember it was the most beautiful taste I ever had!!! I have been addicted to Chinese food ever since. He also bought me my first Kentucky fried chicken, which in those days really was 'finger licking good.' He was a man with principles and did not like unfairness and injustices. He spoke his mind on these matters, but no matter what, we would always agree to disagree. There was never any malice.

Percy was a great person to be around. He was caring and has helped many others in need. He was a great husband to Arnette, loyal and faithful, and will be sorely missed by her. He was happy with his wife. Arnette made him very happy, and in turn helped him to be a better man. Thank you, Arnette, for being such a positive part of his life. He was a spiritual man who loved God, and attended church regularly.

Percy was loved by many. He wasn't a sentimental guy, but his actions proved that he cared. He has left us far too soon, but we have fond memories to cherish about him.

So, on behalf of the family, rest in peace my brother. Your life and your energy, and your love for life, lives on in all of us who have been privileged to know you.
