Peggy King Hallman

After 86 years, Peggy King Hallman -- wife, mother, teacher, friend – entered her "Easter Life" on September 1, 2021.

Peggy grew up in Miami, Florida, where she was an active member of Shenandoah Presbyterian Church, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and serving as President of Westminster Fellowship. She attended the University of Miami and served as Church Secretary of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Miami.

In 1957, she married The Rev. Edward N. Hallman, a Presbyterian minister who was the founder of two churches in Florida. The couple moved to Lakeland, Florida and Peggy enrolled in Florida Southern College and graded English papers for Dr. Henry Barnett.

In 1963, they moved to DeLand, Florida where her husband became Associate Minister of First Presbyterian Church. Peggy taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, served on the boards of First Presbyterian Day School and the DeLand Public Library, and held offices of Elder and Deacon at First Presbyterian.

She and her husband were blessed with two children, Matthew Edward Hallman and Elizabeth Gaines Hallman Ehleringer.

In 1975, Peggy graduated Magna Cum Laude from Stetson University where she was a member of Mortar Board and worked as a secretary in Dr. John Hague's American Studies office. She taught English as a Second Language at Daytona Beach Community College from 1980 to 1998, and her friends from all over the world greatly enriched her life. Peggy also enjoyed being involved in Westminster Presbyterian Church, where her husband was pastor from 1988 to 2004.

After her husband suffered a stroke in 2004, Peggy became his caregiver, and Matthew moved away from home in Daytona Beach to help take care of them. Peggy's husband died in October of 2011, and Matthew continued to serve as his mother's caregiver.

Peggy is also survived by her daughter Elizabeth (David), granddaughter Cassandra Grace Ehleringer, niece Toni King Hoffman, nephew John R. King, and several great nieces and nephews.

Her body will be buried at Oakdale Cemetery in DeLand, and a memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of DeLand on Friday, October 1 ^st at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, make contributions to the First Presbyterian Church Pastor's Fund for the Needy at http://www.fpcdeland.org/ or to the animal shelter of your choice.
