PEGGY DELORES LEWIS COLE, was born on December 20, 1933, in Daytona Beach, FL as the first and only child of James Matthue Lewis (d. 1961) and the former Martha Beatrice O'Berry (d. 2006) both of Hortense, GA. Peggy grew up in both Daytona and Hortense, and briefly in Oak Ridge, TN during WWII, where her Dad James worked as a welder and pipe-fitter on the Manhattan Project. After the war, and living back in Daytona, she attended Mainland Junior and Senior High School. There she met Carter Harris Cole (d. 2008) son of Edward E. and Zilpah H. Cole of Holly Hill, FL. Peggy and Carter were wed on April 14, 1950 and and celebrated 57 years of marriage until his heavenly homegoing in February, 2008. Peggy went home to be with her Lord on the afternoon of 17 May 2014. They are survived by their five children, Ronald Dennis of New Orleans, James Edward of Holly Hill, Laura Bray of Bradenton, FL, Stewart William of Ormond Beach, and Carlton Harris of Maui, Hawaii. Peggy was also the grandmother to (13) Jennifer Cole, Jessica Doyle, and Elizabeth Terrill (to Dennis & Pam Cole), Jennifer Toland and Ryan Cole (to James), Charissa Hickey, Allison Johnston, and Rebekah Alpert (to Laura), Ashley Cirolia, Matthew and Scott Cole (to Stewart & Debbie), and Kevin and Hannah Cole (to Carlton). Peggy is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, Adrianna, Jonathan, Brady, Alexandra (Lexi), Mollie, Jacob, Jefferson (Jayce), Avery, Charlotte, Brittany, Alaina, and Brayden, Jackson, and Joshua (ages 13 yrs. to 10 months). She loved deeply all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she love to sit and talk with for hours.
Peggy was very involved in the church life as Sunday School teacher for children and youth while her kids were growing up in First Baptist Daytona Beach and then in First Baptist Ormond Beach. She was also involved with Winning Women's ministry in Daytona for many years through the 1960s and 70s, sharing her faith in Jesus Christ and encouraging women in their spiritual growth. After returning her membership in First Baptist Daytona Beach, she became involved in teaching Sunday School as well as WMU and served faithfully in evangelistic outreach and a volunteer worker in the church Thrift Store. As a business woman she earned her Real Estate License in in Florida 1974, a career she followed diligently until 2000. In 1998 she received the award for being the Outstanding Real Estate Agent for Volusia County. While active in real estate site sales at Hunter's Ridge in Ormond Beach in 2000, she suffered a stroke which left her with speech difficulty. This precipitated her early retirement, after which she remained active in church life, involved with the WMU and Thrift Store of First Baptist Church Daytona Beach until the decline in her health in the last 2 years of her life. She will be remembered for love for Jesus and her faithful devotion to all of her family, her church, and her friends. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 21st at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church; 188 N. Palmetto Ave. Daytona Beach. The family will receive friends, one hour prior to services.
