Pedro Bernal Marchena, 94 years old, resided in Palm Coast, Florida.  Pedro was also known as Pedro El Gordo y Su Pandilla (Fat Pedro and His Gang), which was his nickname given to him by childhood friends in Cuba.  Pedro was born on August 1, 1923 and passed away on July 6, 2018.  He was born and raised in La Habana, Cuba.  Graduated with a degree in Engineering on August 2, 1943 from The University for Superior Arts and Trades located in La Habana, Cuba.  He enlisted in the Cuban Navy on October 13, 1945 and retired on July 18, 1956.  Pedro was a Secret Service Agent assigned to the President's Detail for Fugencio Batista y Zaldivar under the Batista regime (1940-1959)before being overthrown during the Cuban Revolution.
Pedro was married to Haydee Vasquez on January 6, 1962 in The Bronx, New York (New York City).
He resided in The Bronx, NY, New York, NY (Manhattan-Washington Heights), Miami, Florida, Las Vegas, Nevada and Palm Coast, Florida for the last 3 1/2 years.
Pedro worked and retired as a Sous Chef for the Sheraton Hotel in Manhattan (N.Y.C.).  He worked for this hotel for over 30 years.  Pedro loved and enjoyed his job.  During his time of employment, he achieved many awards, which also included one of the highest awards in Career Excellence awarded to him by the CEO of the Sheraton Hotel for both the National and International Division of the Corporation.
After Pedro retired in 1988, he remained in New York City for approximately four years and decided to relocate to Miami, Florida with his wife, Haydee Bernal, where they had frequently vacationed at since 1970.  His favorite vacation destination was The Waikiki Hotel Resort where he created an abundance of wonderful lifetime memories with family and friends alike.  The Waikiki was located at Miami Beach, which is presently known as Sunny Isles Beach, Florida.  Pedro relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, which he always referred to as "Home" in the early 2000's to be with his one and only son, Pedro Bernal and his wife, Haydee Bernal, and his younger grandchildren, Liza and Sean Bernal.
Pedro loved to travel, and his hobbies included watching T.V., eating snacks, spending time with his family, friends, and pets, playing dominoes, discussing world history and current events, and reading financing magazines and articles.  However, one memory he always cherished was walking along the beach collecting seashells with his beautiful wife when she was alive.
Pedro was a member of The Bankers Club in Manhattan and he would visit a Senior Citizen Center (in Miami), which he traveled to daily 2 hours each way to socialize with friends after his beloved wife died.
He is survived by his one and only Son, Pedro O. Bernal, his Daughter-in-Law/Caretaker, Haydee Bernal, his oldest granddaughter, Candace Bernal, his youngest granddaughter, Liza Mechele Bernal, and his one and only grandson, Sean Nicholas Bernal, and his two great-grandsons, Justin Bernal Raines and Julian Michael Raines.
We have so many beautiful and wonderful memories with our family patriarch that it's extremely difficult to pick just one, so we narrow it down to him just being a beautiful soul who was full of life and love, despite his tough exterior! These memories will always be cherished, and he will forever live in our hearts.
