Pauline Peterson

March 9, 1932 - August 22, 2021

Mary Pauline (Polly) Peterson, 89, passed away peacefully August 22, 2021, at Halifax Hospital, Daytona Beach, surrounded by her adoring family. Born in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, March 9, 1932, to Emma Jane and William Paul Courtright, she was the youngest of five children and is predeceased by her parents and siblings Neecie Hendrix, Bernice Godawa, Tom Courtright, and Katherine Michael. Polly graduated from Lawrence County High School in 1949 and soon moved to Nashville where she was employed by the State of Tennessee in the Accounting Department. She later made a major change and moved to Orlando, Florida, where she met her loving husband. Pete (Harold Dixon Peterson), her partner in marriage for almost 57 years, passed away in April, 2019. Though best known as an amazing homemaker and a devoted and loving mother and wife, she worked for Daytona International Speedway in the ticket department for many years and with Watson Realty in Port Orange after obtaining her real estate license. A career in real estate evolved into starting a company with her husband and together as Harold D. Peterson Builders, Inc., they built and sold over 50 homes in partnership and individually around the Volusia County area. In 2011 Polly and Pete retired and spent their remaining years traveling and caring for one another. In 2017 they moved into Countryside Lakes ALF. Polly loved music and people. She had a unique way of drawing in each and every person that she met with her generous nature and loving heart. There wasn ' t a soul she touched that didn ' t adore her. Her beautiful fun loving spirit, her wit, and her natural ability to care and comfort others will be missed by all who knew her. Polly is survived by daughter and son in law, Dena and David Joseph; son and daughter in law, Don and Michelle Peterson; four grandchildren, Tyler (Gabby) Peterson, Shelby Peterson (Eugene McGirt), Christopher (Gina) Joseph, Corey Joseph; three great grandchildren, Elias McGirt, Tanner Peterson, Sophia Joseph; nieces Margaret Dooley, Kay Leddy, Tammy Gelman, Dee Dee Relyea; nephews Warren Shingle, Bob Courtright, Jim Courtright; best friend and confidant for over 50 years, Dorothy (Dink) Almond; and a host of other beloved family and close friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Countryside Lakes ALF in Port Orange and her wonderful lady friends there for their care and friendship for the last four years and to extend appreciation to the caregivers of Concierge Care for their love and kindness. A memorial service will be held at Lohman ' s Funeral Home in Port Orange on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 1:00 PM with visitation from 12 to 1 before the service. A reception will follow at the Countryside Clubhouse, 951 Village Trail.
