Pauline Kremser passed away peacefully on February 18, 2020, with family at her side. She was 92 years old.  Within the last month of her life, Pauline was visited by each one of her four living children who was physically able, every one of her eight grandchildren, and most of her eleven great-grandchildren, all of whom loved her dearly.

Pauline was born and raised in Easton, Pennsylvania.  One of eight children born to her parents, William and Sarah Holjes, Pauline was known to her family and childhood friends by the most apropos nickname, "Joy."  After graduating from high school, Pauline met West Point cadet Frank J. Kremser, Jr.   On June 3, 1947, the day he graduated from West Point, Frank and Pauline were married and spent the next chapter of their lives in military service.  In their first ten years of marriage Pauline, Frank, and their growing family lived in at least six states, including Texas, Louisiana, Indiana, Georgia, and Alaska. They also lived in Japan.  Pauline created a community and made a wonderful home for her family in each of these places.

In 1957, when Frank retired from the military, the family moved to Florida, where Frank joined the family business, and they stayed for many years.  But the adventurous moves were not behind them.  In the early 1970s Pauline and Frank moved their family to San Juan, Puerto Rico.  In San Juan, Pauline shepherded her two youngest boys through high school and made life-long friends. Pauline was active in the Newcomer's Club and loved playing golf at Dorado Beach and Cerromar Country Clubs.  Frank and Pauline maintained a residence in Puerto Rico until about 1991, when they moved full-time to their cattle ranch on Sampala Lake in Madison, Florida

Pauline and Frank enjoyed being ranchers. Pauline loved having her grandchildren visit and create the same kind of fond memories she cherished from her own childhood visits to her grandfather's farm.   Even on their working ranch, Pauline made sure there were two friendly donkeys on which the children could dote.

Pauline and Frank moved to Port Orange around 1993 to be close to Pauline's sister Josephine, who had relocated to the area.   Following Frank's death in 2002, Pauline established herself as a formidable bridge player, playing in weekly games with both the Wagon Wheel Club and the Peninsula Woman's Club, where she played on a regular basis until just a few years ago.

Pauline had a sense of style that carried throughout her life.  She was poised, elegant, and refined, in a way all her own.  Pauline loved to entertain and did so in a way that seemed effortless.   Pauline had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.  She was a wonderful cook.  Her German potato salad is the stuff of legend and ruined all other potato salads for much of her family. Pauline was sharp as a tack and remained so until the very end of her life.  She followed the stock market and could go toe to toe with anyone in a debate.

Pauline loved her family intensely.  She was never happier than when she had a house full of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Pauline was fiercely devoted and strong.  She cared for Frank, to whom she was married for 55 years, for over a decade following his debilitating stroke.  She was predeceased by three of her children, her youngest daughter, Claire, as an infant.  Yet, for all the hardship and heartbreak that Pauline endured, she held onto that youthful spark of "Joy" throughout her long life and it showed in the sparkle of her blue eyes.  For all her elegance and poise, she was quick to catch your eye and share a wink and smile.  She will be missed more than she could have known.

Pauline was predeceased by her husband Frank J. Kremser, Jr., their daughters, Claire M. Kremser and Annette K. Potts, and son, Jon Fredrick Kremser. She is survived by daughter Stephanie M. Kremser, and sons, Frank J. Kremser, III and his wife Susan, Thomas R. Kremser and his wife Victoria, and Geffory P. Kremser.
