Paul Philip Pettinato - July 28, 1950 - April 9, 2021
Paul Philip Pettinato, of Port Orange Florida, passed away peacefully on April 9 th at the age of 70. Paul was born in Kingston, New York to Florence Coords Pettinato and Alfred Pettinato. He joined his siblings for what would be a wonderful life living in Phoenicia, New York, attending Onteora schools and working at the family restaurant for over 50 years.
After graduating high school, Paul attended SUNY Delhi and served in the US Army primarily in Thailand. Paul would return to Phoenicia and help run and eventually take over the family business, Al's Restaurant, until his retirement in 2012. He spent his remaining years in Florida where he spent much of his time dogsitting and swimming in the pool with his neighbors.
Paul was well known for his fun-loving personality, charitable nature and advocacy for independent restaurant owners in the state of New York. Paul was also known for his love of animals and his ability to build incredible relationships. The great memories he helped create will cherished by his family, friends, customers and staff at Al's restaurant. He was also a positive role model and mentor to many young people growing up in Phoenicia. He was commonly referred to as "Uncle Paulie" by those who grew up knowing him.
Paul's two greatest loves were his son, Gregory and his dog and constant companion Maestro. Gregory, along with his daughter-in-law Stephanie, had Paul's granddaughter Mila and grandson, Jackson. Paul adored his grandkids and they enjoyed visiting him in Florida and lovingly referred to as "Grampy." Paul's other remaining relatives include his sister, Rita Pettinato Landy of Catskill, New York, his brother, Fred of Durango, Colorado. Additionally niece, Alison Landy Cavallaro (and husband Conor) of Cold Spring, New York, nephew, Timothy Landy (and wife Jessica) of Ridgefield, Connecticut, nephew Paul J Pettinato (and wife Andrea) of Weston, Massachusetts, niece Annemarie Pettinato of Austin, TX.
To honor Paul, please do not send flowers, but we encourage you to make a personal donation in his name to the ASPCA ( www.aspca.org ). The family intends to celebrate Paul's life soon in New York and we will all have an opportunity to share our stories about this great man. Details on these arrangements to follow.
