In Loving Memory of
Patrick "Sonny" Avena
April 26, 1941 – November 28, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Patrick "Sonny" Avena, who departed peacefully on the afternoon of November 28 at the age of 84. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Sonny proudly served his country as an Army medic during the Vietnam era. He later continued his service to the community as a member of the NYPD and the FDNY, among various other skilled professions throughout his life.
Beyond his years of service, Sonny was a man of many passions. In his youth, he was a talented drummer who played in small local bands, nurturing a lifelong love of music. He was also an avid woodworker who took great joy in crafting pieces by hand and sharing his creations with family and friends. In his later years, Sonny found deep camaraderie and purpose as a member of the Harley-Davidson Knights of the Inferno and Fire & Iron motorcycle chapters — communities that brought him friendship, adventure, and brotherhood.
Sonny passed surrounded by family and cherished lifelong friends. His final moments were marked by comfort, gratitude, and the love of those who meant the most to him.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Carolyn Avena; his daughter, Stacie Avena; his son, Nick Avena; his daughter-in-law, Sarah Avena; and his beloved grandson, Luca Avena. Sonny is also survived by his sister, Joann and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
