Funeral Services for Auren Oscar Folsom Jr. who died peacefully Sunday March 19 2006 at Hospice Care Center Port Orange will be Thursday March 23th at 11:00am at First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach. Interment will immediate follow at Daytona Memorial Park. His family will receive friends on Wed. March 22nd from 5-8pm in the chapel of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond. Oscar was born in Thomasville GA on June 8 1913. He began a 35 year career in law enforcement and retired after serving as Daytona Beach Police Chief for 20 years. During his career Oscar received many accolades for his proactive service. He initiated many programs including the Police Reserves and the School Crossing Guards program. He was the founder of the Volusia County Police Chiefs Assn. and the Florida Int?l Police Chiefs Assn. Under Gov. Claude Kirk he was appointed to the Law Enforcement Board of Standards. While chief Oscar still found time to remain active in the community. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach and a member of the Kiwanis club the Elks club the Eagles the Moose the Civitan and the Fraternal Order of Police. During his tenure he facilitated the construction of the current Daytona Beach Police station which was later dedicated to him. He was well respected throughout his life by family and friends and he will be dearly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years Billie Jean his 3 sons Rick and wife Marilyn of Ormond Beach FL Don and daughter-in-law Linda of Live Oak FL Gary and daughter in law Helen of Daytona Beach FL; his 3 daughters by marriage Lynda and her husband Dan Hucks of Deleon Springs FL Glenda and her husband Jack Ashmore of Blytheville AR Teresa McCutchen of Davenport FL; his 3 sisters Annie Laurie Saunders of Longwood FL Emma Dell Stewart of CA and Barbara Pomerleau of Port Orange FL 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
