Ora Elizabeth Watherwax was born in 1925 in Cheriton Va. To Charles Gordon Watherwax and Ora Elsie Scott Watherwax.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held Sunday January 16 2011 at 2 p.m. at Cardwell Funeral Home 3571 Ridgewood Ave Port Orange 32129. Rev. Jim Smith will officiate.
Ora was married to William S. Chandlee for 59 years before his death in 2002.
During World War II Ora was a quality control inspector for 50 caliber ammunition.
After the war William and Ora moved to Daytona Beach so William could attend Mary Karl Vocational School.
During this time she met her long time friend Sue Milholen and they both worked for the Porter Bait Company on Main St. making artificial fishing lures.
In the late 60'she graduated from the Daytona Beach Junior College nursing program. She was a nurse at Halifax and Peninsula Hospitals and for the late Dr. Crouch.
One of her passions was growing hibiscus and gardenias many of which won ribbons at the annual flower show.
Ora was an avid bridge player and in later years loved to dance at the Ormond Beach Senior Center with her neighbor of fifty years Hilton Ramirez .
She is survived by her son William S. Chandlee Jr. of Daytona Beach and daughter Patricia A. Chandlee of Orlando and four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
