J. Oliver Bridgeforth, more affectionately known as "Tuffy" was born November 16, 1927 in Newark, NJ and passed away on January 11, 2015 in Deltona. FL. He was the youngest of four children born to Ned and Anna Bridgeforth. His parents and siblings, Elvord, Ada Williams, and Dorothy Wayne preceded him in death. He attended school in Newark and graduated from Essex County Vocational School mastering the trades of Painting and Masonry.

"Tuffy" was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army and was awarded the "Victory Medal Army of Occupation Medal". He retired from UMDNJ after 25 years of service as a Masonry Mechanic Supervisor. After his retirement, he relocated to Florida but often returned to New Jersey to visit family and friends with whom he stayed in contact with through phone calls, letters and E Mails until his death.

"Tuffy" was a world traveler and kept extensive memorabilia of his many trips to Belize, Brazil, Hawaii, Italy, Switzerland and other countries. He also loved jazz music and had a huge collection of LP's and CD's. He loved to read and was a history buff collecting books, and newspaper articles on Black America. He was also a staunch financial and active supporter of President Barack Obama.

He was also a sports enthusiast enjoying horseback riding, skiing, tennis, snorkeling, and softball. His personality was infectious. He had nicknames for everyone and was known to greet people saying "Hey Dude".

"Tuffy" is survived by two daughters, Sherill Cowan of NJ, Marcia Garcia of Brazil, one son, Kevin Moore of NJ. and one grandson, Matheus Oliveira de Souza. His daughter, Carla Cowan preceded him in death. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
