Obituary

Norma Hahn Daniels

Norma Hahn Daniels passed away in Ormond Beach FL on November 24, 2018.  She was born on December 29, 1924 in Utica NY, the daughter of M. Joseph Hahn and Nora (Rocke) Hahn.  The fifth of six children, Norma was a talented dancer and performer throughout her youth, graduated Utica Free Academy in 1942, then worked at Rome Army Air Field. In 1944, she married Harry S. Daniels, and their union of 52 years blessed them with six daughters born over 21 years, whom they raised together at their homes in upstate New York (New York Mills, New Hartford, Old Forge, Saranac Lake) and in New Smyrna Beach, FL.  Norma helped Harry run their Mohawk Wire Products company, and proudly supported his political career, highlighted by his terms as Oneida County Executive 1966-1971.  Norma was a career volunteer, from supporting the war effort as a young adult, to being named Volunteer of the Year for the Saranac Lake chapter of the American Heart Association, to working tirelessly at her girl's schools and organizations.  In 1977, they retired to New Smyrna Beach, where Norma was a central figure at the Pelican Condominium, and they explored the world through travel.  Norma was most proud of her role as a loving wife and mother.  She and Harry were happily married until his passing in 1996.

Norma leaves six daughters who will miss her warm laugh and contagious smile:  Barbara Colwell, Jacquelyn Bixby (Paul), Jill Daniels (Gary Bauer), Amy Blanchard (Roger), Nora Sanchez (Greg) and Susan Toussaint (Brad). She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren who will dearly miss their Nonnie, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband Harry, brothers Robert, Richard, James, and Donald; sister Marjorie and grandson William J. Colwell.

Norma is famous among friends and family for her many gifts, including her sharp Scrabble and crossword puzzle skills, her love of dancing & constant singing, her fondness for sweet treats, and of course her beautiful blue eyes.  Mostly, Norma will be forever remembered for her unwavering love and support of her husband and family, and the kindness and graciousness which she displayed throughout her life.

The family wishes to express thanks and gratitude to the Brookdale Assistant Living staff for the warm care and comfort they provided to Norma and her family.
