Nolan Layton Bennett was born on September 2, 1945, in Saint Augustine, Florida and passed peacefully on the night of Saturday August 27, 2023, at the Emory L. Bennett Veterans' Nursing Home in Daytona Beach Florida. Nolan graduated with the class of 1963 from Wayne County High School in Jesup, Georgia, and went on to attend college at North Georgia College. He joined the United States Navy in 1967 where he served in NATO Naples, Italy where he met his best friend and honorary brother Mike Molloy. Nolan was then deployed to Da Nang, Vietnam where he served in I Corps and earned numerous commendations. After the war, Nolan married his beloved Wanda and built his career in the publishing industry, leading a national sales force, and rising to the rank of Senior Vice President at the Hearst Corporation. Nolan lived in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, New York, New Jersey, and finally Florida again.

Nolan was predeceased by his wife of 48 years Wanda Larkin Bennett, and son-in-law Christopher Flippen. Nolan is survived by daughter Amy Bennett Flippen, son Ian Nolan Bennett, sister Yvonne Bennett Murray, grandson Ensign Brendon Nolan Bennett, grandson Timothy Bennett Flippen, granddaughter Isabella Noel Bennett, daughter-in-law Bernadette Quimpo Bennett, and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
