Neftali Aguila Sr. (85)
May 13, 1937- June 14, 2022
Neftali passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife Bienvenida of 62 years, his son Neftali Jr. and daughter Judy as well as his four grandchildren, Carlos, Marcus, Chelsea and Tatiana.
Neftali was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico in 1937 and in 1958 he moved to New York City. Neftali married Bienvenida in 1960. He worked as a store clerk supporting his growing family. His first child, his son was born in 1961, with his daughter being born in 1966. He raised his two children with strong work ethics, as they watched him consistently provide for the family day after day, taking pride in his work. With the arrival of his first grandson, Carlos in 1985 he was overjoyed becoming a grandfather for the first time. His second grandson, Marcus in 1991 he was more than able to handle grandfatherhood. Then came his first granddaughter, Chelsea in 1993 and he handled a girl no differently than the boys. By the time he met last granddaughter Tatiana in 2000, he was already a professional grandfather.
Neftali retired in 2002 and relocated to Deltona, Florida in 2004. In his retirement he loved to cheer on his favorite baseball team, the New York Mets, even all the way from Florida. He enjoyed playing dominos with his wife, friends, and even his grandchildren. But what Neftali loved to do most was spend time with the people he loved, his family. Whether it be friendly banter with Carlos and Marcus about the fact that the Mets were better than the Yankees, taking Tatiana to the park after school, or letting Chelsea put his hair into multiple ponytails, he just loved being around them. He would go on walks with his wife, when he wasn't following behind her into any store imaginable. He was just always there.
