Funeral Services for Mrs. Nancy Jane Symons age 72 of Ormond Beach who died Monday July 25 2005 at Kindred Hospital in Green Cove Springs will be Friday July 29th at 1:00pm at Calvary Christian Center in Ormond Beach with Rev. James Raley as the officiant. Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Thursday July 28th in the chapel of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond and from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Friday July 29th at Calvary Christian Center. Mrs. Symons was born July 28 1932 in Medford MA to Herbert Arnold and Annie G. Adams Johnston and moved to this area from Bar Harbour ME in 1968. Nancy attended Boston University and was a graduate of Scarritt College and Young Harris College. Nancy began her career in Christian Education where she was the District Supervisor of Youth Education for the Central Pennsylvania United Methodist Synod. She then taught at The Rehabilitation Center for the Blind in Daytona Beach for over 30 years until her retirement in 2003. She taught the students brail mathematics and coping skills for employment and practical living. Nancy was the Pioneer for the GED curriculum for the blind in the U.S. Nancy was a member of the Calvary Christian Center and a member of the Young Harris College Alumni. She loved cooking music traveling and reading. Her greatest enjoyment came from the challenge of teaching and helping her students. She is survived by her loving husband Skip a son Kent of Ormond Beach a daughter Jane Symons of Ormond Beach a brother David Johnston and his wife Jewel and a grandson Matthew Symons.
