Nancy Catherine Counts Owen 77 accomplish-ed pianist loving wife devoted mother and life-long resident of Daytona Beach passed away peacefully at home on December 16th 2011. Born in Bluefield W. Va. she moved with her family to Daytona Beach at the age of 9. Her piano achievements started early where she played in the local bandshell at age 13 and for a radio program at the age of 16. Nancy graduated from Seabreeze High School in 1952 and received a full scholarship to Wesleyan College in Macon Ga. after which she received Bachelors (1956) and Masters (1958) degrees in piano from Florida State University studying under Mary E. Winslow. Nancy married Charles C. Owen in December 1959 to whom she shared a life with for 50 years. She taught music at Ormond Elementary School until her father G.R. Counts who brought Counts Supply Company down from Bluefield offered her a position to help run his company which she did until retiring in 1998. Nancy kept active throughout her life enjoying her home offering piano lessons and playing at different churches including Community United Methodist and Calvary Baptist. Mostly she was a very loving and selfless mother. She is predeceased by her husband Charles. Left to cherish her memories are her daughters Catherine and Charlene; and her sister Mary Lou Fanning. A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 28th at 2:00 pm at Faith Covenant (former Calvary Baptist) Church 210 N. Peninsula Drive Daytona Beach with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the FSU College of Music denoting ""For: in memory of Nancy C.
