Myrtle L.
Mcguirk
Dec 28, 1921 — Apr 19, 2018
Port Orange
Myrtle Louise "Louise" McGuirk was born Dec 28 th , 1921 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Louise was called home to our Lord on April 19 th , 2018. She was 96 years old. She was the first-born daughter to Carrie (Johnstin) Wilson and Vance Wilson. Her Dad Proudly served in World War II as an Executive Officer aboard the APA -50 USS Pierce. She always spoke fondly about the book "Away ALL Boats," in which her Dad was played by a famous movie star.
She was predeceased by both parents, a sister, Shirley Fischer, of Versailles, PA, a nephew, Vance Drennen, and a grandson, Matthew "Magou" McGuirk.
Louise graduated from Marion High School of Washington Township, PA. in 1940. After graduation she moved to Washington D.C. and started working as a telephone operator. She married George Edward McGuirk in 1947 and had a son, Michael (Mike) George McGuirk, on July 19
th
, 1948. She spent many summers in Ocean City, Maryland with her family. Her son, Mike, continues to return to the Ocean City beach where he served as an Ocean City Beach Patrol Guard for many years. She loved her life in Washington but decided to Florida a few years after her husband died at the age of 56. She sold her home in Arlington and moved to Royal Palm Beach, FL. There she worked as a receptionist for a very busy Salon.
Louise later moved to Port Orange, FL because she wanted to be closer to her only grandchildren, Kristine (McGuirk) Reed & Matthew McGuirk, the children of Mike & Victoria (Marchiony) McGuirk, who met in Ocean City in 1972 and where married in 1974. Mike, her only son, was very busy working on our Space Shuttle Program until he retired in 2012, after 31 years of service.
Her only granddaughter, Kristine (McGuirk) Reed got married in 2010 to Jon Reed and they have 2 children, Mia Mattison & Clyde Michael. Louise loved that she was a Great Grandma to them and enjoyed every minute she spent with them.
Louise lived at Epiphany Manor for over 35 years as one of the very first residents until she had to leave in 2012 for health reasons. Louise was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, where she also served as President for a few years. She was an avid collector of antiques, dolls, jewelry and loved all her many cats. She loved baking cookies for her grand kids. She always loved being around her family. Louise was blessed all her life with a lot of dear friends and was quite the Fashionista in her time!
