Obituary

Murlin Jones

Today we mourn the loss of Murlin Jones - a man who was as unique as his name. Murlin leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, Linda, and their three sons, Michael, Matthew and Mark. He also leaves behind 3 grandsons, Mark Jr., Calvin and Luke. Born and raised in Southern Indiana, Murlin came from humble beginnings and decided to join the Navy as a young man. After his four years of military service, his pursuit of a career in construction brought him to Florida where he met his wife, Linda, and with the help of his brother-in-laws built a home in Port Orange where he and his wife raised their three boys. Murlin volunteered as a youth athletics coach for over 20 years. He loved sports (especially basketball) and instilled that love of sports in each of his boys. Murlin found professional success with Wharton-Smith, Inc. where he achieved the position of Sr. Project Manager before retiring. He was in charge of a number of major construction projects including the Alfond Sports Center and Crummer School of Business at Rollins College. Murlin was an avid golfer and one of his greatest golfing accomplishments came when he won a Mustang convertible in a closest-to-the-pin competition. Murlin had the uncanny ability to talk to anyone and always had a joke queued up to tell. He was loved dearly by his friends and family.
