In loving memory of our dear Mother, Mona L. Wells, we are saddened to announce her passing on Sunday, April 2, 2023. She fell asleep in death peacefully, in comfort, and surrounded by her family.
Born to Elmer and Elsie Cook, on 04/02/2023, Mona was predeceased by her husband Ray (Ringo) Wells, Sister Betty Lou, and Brother George Cook (Eleanor). Left to survive her are her daughter Joyce White (Scott) and son Ray Wells, Jr, twin brothers Ed Cook (Karan) and Edwin Cook, three grandchildren, Melissa Gailey (Robert), Joseph Catania (Jessica), and Jessie McClelland (Stephen), great-granddaughter Leyna McClelland (Daryl), and special family members John Shaefer (Nancy) and good friends, Ray Johnson and Tish Finch.
She was known to possess a heart of pure gold (and infinite dimensions) and even though she was small in stature, she always managed to maintain a very strong presence as matriarch of the family.
In the early years of her marriage to 'Ringo' Wells, she worked very hard on the small produce farm, as well as tending to their cows and a variety of other farm animals that they owned. It was on this small Pennsylvania farm where Mona taught her children the value of hard work and instilled in them a life-long love for all living things.
Mona delighted in cooking! Especially for others to enjoy. Anyone who knew her would be quick to tell you that she excelled at cooking all the best 'comfort foods' and would look forward to receiving one of her frequent 'care packages'! As for her famous macaroni and potato salads, she was the absolute queen. (hands down).
She also adored Country and Western music, particularly the oldies like Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and the like. And how she loved reading romance novels and read them voraciously! Especially anything written by Danielle Steele. In her later years, our dear Mona also became fond of watching all the old western movies and series on TV and watch then she did. Cheyenne, Gunsmoke, Bonanza!
Mona was probably best known for her 'open-door' policy for any friends or family that found themselves needing a place to stay. No questions asked. She believed in sharing whatever she had with those in need and would make sure to provide food to anyone experiencing hard times. She passed on her generous nature to her children and was kind until the day she died! She was a very strong woman. She had to be. Her love for her family knew no limits.
I believe that anyone who knew her will miss her dearly for all the 'smooches' and hugs she liked to give. I know, for certain, that I will.
And in our hearts and through found memories she will live on until we are together again one fine day. Don't forget to hug your Mom.
At Mona's request, there will be no viewing or memorial service.
Her wish was that you remember her as you knew her.
