Miriam M. Haddad, 93 of Ormond Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at Brookdale Assistant Living, Ormond Beach. She was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to Donald and Miriam Cassel Matthews. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and served alongside her husband, Rev. Ernest E. Haddad, former Pastor, Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church, Ormond Beach.  Miriam received her Bachelors' degree from Wilson College in Pennsylvania in 1947. After graduating from College, she went alone to China to serve in mission work and teach.  She worked alongside US Marines stationed in China and is featured in a resultant book "Charlie Two Shoes and the Marines of Love Company".  Her time in China was short lived when she had to evacuate on a Navy ship as the communist took over the country.  After returning to the states she met and married her husband Ernest and soon moved to small rural Round Lake Minnesota helping her husband serve a small Presbyterian Church and begin to raise four children.  She helped her husband Ernest begin the Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church in 1959 and served many roles in the church as it developed and matured.  Over her homemaking and child rearing career she managed to also serve as a church Christian education leader, Volusia County substitute teacher in physical education and other disciplines, a tennis teacher, a marriage counselor and many other roles that kept her active.  Among her many volunteer efforts, she was a former President of the Board of Rose Marie Bryant Center of Ormond Beach, a volunteer with Halifax Urban Ministries, member of the choir at Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church, and a member of the choir at Mt Jefferson Presbyterian Church in North Carolina.  Miriam was a wonderful mother to her children and a loving grandmother and great grandmother.  She was also a true athlete and was inducted into the Wilson College Athletics Hall of Honor for excelling and lettering in 7 sports.  Her passion for tennis was unmatched but she also loved, ping pong, walking, and any challenging physical activity.  She was not one to sit still. Recently she was active at the YMCA almost daily and enjoyed walking several times a day.   Her physical life was matched by her spiritual life.  Throughout her life she was a true servant of the Lord and was an inspiration to everyone she met. Survivors include her children Daughter Judith Sharpe of Ormond Beach Fl and son Kenneth Haddad (Sharon) of Monticello Fl, Grandsons Joshua Sharpe (Shannon and stepsons) and David Haddad, Granddaughters Heather Sharpe (Joel Turmel), Ashley Lecas (Jimmy), Lindsey Haddad (Matt Abu-Diab), and Jessica Haddad, great grandsons Nathan and Hunter Sharpe, Derick and Andrew Lecas, Jackson Turmel, and Jaxson Abu-Diab,                                  great-granddaughters Samantha Lecas and Jordan Abu-Diab, Preceded in Death by Husband Ernest Haddad, Son Bruce Haddad and his wife Dorothy, Son David Haddad A service of Remembrance will be celebrated on October 27 ^th at 3pm at the Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church, Ormond Beach Fl.  A reception will be held in the Haddad Fellowship Hall immediately after.  Memorial Contributions may be made in memory to Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church, 105 Amsden Road, Ormond Beach 32176
