Obituary

Minnie "Ruth" Fields born August 16 1928 in Empire GA the youngest daughter of Gordon Phillips and Allie B Law passed away October 5 peacefully with her loving family at her side after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents her seven brothers and sisters and her husband of 38 years Irvin Lee Fields.
Ruth was a remarkable woman who will be missed by everyone whose life she has touched. Raised during the great depression she had a determination and fortitude that carried her though life. She worked as a nurse for most of her adult life retiring in 1990 from Humana Hospital Daytona Beach after 27 years of loving care to her patients. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed so many special memories with her grandchildren and their children. She enriched so many lives with her kindness love inner beauty and a strength that amazed us all. She loved crocheting quilting and playing MahJong. She loved to travel and spent her life bringing joy to so many.
A member of the Mainland High School class of 1946 Ruth married and moved to Indiana with her husband. After moving back to Daytona Beach she worked at Halifax Hospital as an LPN. In 1975 she graduated from the Daytona Beach Community College Nursing Program as an RN and worked for another 15 years. After retiring from Humana Hospital she continued to live in the Daytona Beach area until she moved in 2005 to Forest VA. She frequently returned to Daytona Beach to visit her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her 10 children John Fields and his wife Nancy of Live Oak Mary Reno Chiovera of Daytona Beach Catherine Crowell of Forest VA Ellen Anderson of Daytona Beach Deborah Finley of Daytona Beach Susan Johns and her husband Tim of Port Orange Peggy Glatt of Daytona Beach Bob Fields of Las Vegas NV Jim Fields and his wife Linda of Forest VA and Joe Fields of Lake City 20 grandchildren 15 great grandchildren 1 great-great granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday October 7 2011 from 5pm to 7pm at the Baggett & Summers Funeral Home 736 S Beach St Daytona Beach FL on. A celebration of her remarkable life will be held on Saturday October 8 2011 at Central Baptist Church 152 Fairview Ave Daytona Beach FL at 11am with burial to follow at the Daytona Beach Memorial Park.
