Millicent Michalski passed away peacefully in her home on July 15th, 2014. She lived in Port Orange, FL, very near her beloved sister, Gloria Ryan. Millicent was born as a British subject on March 20, 1934, in what was to become (in 1949) Newfoundland, Canada. At that time Millicent became a Canadian citizen, which she remained the rest of her life. Millicent's mother and father were Ronald and Gladys Farrell of Bell Island, Newfoundland, both of whom lived for many years on the Island and are buried there. Ronald and Gladys had nine children, from oldest to youngest, Hazel (Reid), Lillian (Fishkind), Millicent (Michalski), Vera (Doherty), Wallace, Viola (Young), Millie (Hunt), Gloria (Ryan), and Lorne.
Millicent married and had three loving children of her own, Donna Watson of Seattle WA, Wallace Reid of Mercer Island WA, and Michael Michalski of Longmont CO. She was a very smart woman, managed the family's finances, and eventually became a nurse after several busy years in nursing school, competing against students 20-years younger than herself. She enjoyed working with elderly folks in their homes, providing care and loving companionship. Millicent also liked to have fun. During this last year of her life she enjoyed her 80th birthday party with more than 50 family and friends in Daytona Beach FL, complete with live Irish music, bagpipes and dancing! She also spent considerable time with her daughter Donna Watson, her sister Gloria Ryan, and her nieces Tina Remmert and Cherylynn Hunt, all who provided Millicent the loving care she had so generously provided to others.
Millicent is survived by her siblings Vera, Viola, Millie, Gloria and Lorne. Millicent is also survived by her three children Donna, Wallace and Michael, by her six grandchildren Brooke, Melissa, Lacey, Daniel, Anna and Joshua, and by her four great-grandchildren Emily, Ashley, Mahayla and Matthew. She will be greatly missed by everyone she touched.
Millicent decided before she passed to have her body cremated, with her final resting place being her original home of Bell Island, Newfoundland. At some time in the future Millicent's extended family will travel to Newfoundland to carry out Millicent's last wish, to return her to the Church where she was baptized, and to the cemetery where her parents and brother Wallace Farrell are buried.
