Mildred Rebecca Shanks Rowe passed away on October 29, 2018 at Penney Retirement Community, Penney Farms, Fl., where she had resided since 2003. She was born in Daytona Beach, Florida on January 9, 1919 to Albert and Florence Donaldson Shanks. She was raised in Daytona and lived there until her marriage in December, 1936, to Marion Gordon Rowe, Jr. when they moved to Jacksonville for his career in the warehousing business. They later moved to Lake Asbury, where she was active in the Woman's Club, was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, the Hope Circle and the XYZ's. She and her husband were also active in the K-9 Obedience Club of Jacksonville for many years. Mildred was a quiet and gentle spirit, who was loved by all. She devoted her life to raising her children and selflessly caring for her aging parents. Preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Gordon, she is survived by daughters, Florence Arthur ( Jack) Ft Walton, FL; Judy Vick (Harold) Durham, NC; and son, Thomas Rowe (Barbara ) Marianna, FL; seven grandchildren, Donna Boynton, Andrea Graham, Connie Ponder, Patricia Wilson, Michael Vick, and Bryan and Theodore Rowe; twenty great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held on Friday, Nov 2, at 12:30 PM at Daytona Memorial Park, 1423 Bellevue Ave, Daytona Beach FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hagen Care Center, PO Box 555, Penney Farms, FL. 32079. The family extends a special thanks to the wonderful caregivers there and at the Pavilion.
