Mildred A. Coughlin, 81, of Ormond Beach, FL went to her final home on May 23, 2016. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday May 28, 2016 at St. Brendans Roman Catholic Church, 1000 Ocean Shore Boulevard, Ormond Beach, FL 32176.
Mildred was born in Jersey City, N.J. to John and Minnie Cavanaugh. She was educated by the Sisters of Charity at Sacred Heart School and the Academy of Saint Aloysius in Jersey City. She earned a B.A. in Elementary Education from New Jersey State College where she was a member of Kappa Delta Pi.

She and her husband Jim, raised their family in East Brunswick, N.J., and Mildred began her teaching career in the neighboring town of Miltown. She moved to Ormond Beach in 1979 and the following year began what would become a 30 year career as a 4th grade teacher at St. Brendan School. She also taught Religion to the handicapped in the REACH program for many years. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Brendan Catholic Church for over 20 years. After her retirement, she sat on the St. Brendan School Board and cherished her continued connection to the school that she loved. Mildred was honored by being among the first inductees into the St. Brendan, The Navigator Hall of fame.

She was predeceased by her husband James P. and her son, James J. She is survived by her daughter Denise Borgstede and son-in-law Russell, St. Petersburg, daughter Maureen Coughlin, and son John Coughlin both of Ormond Beach, and daughter-in -law Linda Coughlin of Surf City N.J, six grandchildren - James, Michael, Melissa, Kathy, Patricia and Alexsandra, and 5 great grandchildren.

In her earlier years, Mildred was active in dance, and shared her love by teaching her talent to her many students. She enjoyed her many years as Girl Scout leader and band parent. Always an avid reader, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, words with friends, her annual family cruises, and celebrating her Irish heritage. She loved most the time she spent with cherished friends and family.
