United States veteran Stamatis Col. Michael G.
Graveside Funeral Services for Michael G. Stamatis 92 of Ormond Beach who passed away on September 12 2006 at home will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday September 14 2006 in Daytona Memorial Park 1423 Bellevue Ave. Daytona Beach. The family will be receiving friends at the Lohman Funeral Home Ormond 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach on Wednesday from 6 pm until 8 pm . Ret. U.S. Army Col. Michael G. Stamatis was born Feb. 19 1914 in Brooklyn NY. He retired in Ormond Beach in 1978. He was a graduate from the University of Alabama where he received his B.S. degree in Commissioned thru the army ROTC Program as a Lieutenant he served in the Asiatic Pacific on Bora Bora in the Solomon Islands. Upon his return the U.S. he served as an instructor in OCS school at Camp Davis N.C. He also served in the European Theater and was awarded the Bronze Star twice during conflicts of central Germany Rhineland campaigns. During the occupation of Germany he served as a military government officer in West Bavaria. He was an observer at the Nuremberg Trials. He was awarded a Presidential Commendation by President Truman for his services as a military government officer during the occupation of Germany. He was graduate of Command?s General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth KS. Survivors include his sons George M. of Marco Island FL and Robert M. of Port Orange his brother James of Hallandale FL; sister Betty Robertson of Palo Alto CA and his two grandchildren Tracey and Adam.
