Michael A. Reinhardt, 67, of Debary, Fla., passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2014. He was born Oct. 28, 1947, in Lima, Ohio, and was raised in nearby Wapakoneta, Ohio.

After graduating high school in 1965, Mr. Reinhardt enlisted in the Navy and spent the next 23 years in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion program aboard submarines both fast attacks and Tridents. His distinguished Navy career was completed in December 1988, when he retired with the rate of EMCS(SS). Michael served with distinction and honors during the Vietnam War and the Cold War. He was awarded several medals and numerous commendations and citations throughout his career. Among his sea duties he served aboard the USS Aspro (SSN-648), USS Memphis (SSN-691), USS Cincinnati (SSN-693) and the USS Florida (SSBN- 728). In addition to the sea duties, he was assigned as a staff instructor for three separate tours at the Nuclear Propulsion Training Unit in Ballston Spa, N.Y., assigned to the D1G, S8G and S3G nuclear prototypes. Here he was designated as a master training specialist. He completed his Associate of Science degree in 1987.

After his military career, Mr. Reinhardt relocated to the Pittsburgh area and continued working in the nuclear field for Westinghouse Electric Co. in the Nuclear Division as a refueling coordinator/project manager specializing in refueling commercial reactor plants throughout the United States. He retired from Westinghouse in April 2010, and moved to Debary, Fla., in September 2010, where he spent the rest of his years enjoying retirement.

Besides spending time with his family, some of the hobbies he enjoyed were refinishing/restoring old furniture, freshwater fishing, working on older cars, crossword puzzles and reading. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, John Wayne, classic westerns and war movies. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and American Legion.

He is survived by Karen E. Lamping, his hometown sweetheart, whom he married in 1968 and shared 46 years together. He is survived by four children, Susan Colgan and fiance, Ed Meaux, of Debary, Fla., Sandra Snyder and husband, Neal, of Connellsville, Stefanie Henninger and husband, Steve, of Murrysville, and Scott Reinhardt, and was predeceased by one child, Kathleen Anne Reinhardt. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Ashton, Keely, Wyatt, Angelina, Hunter and Carter, and predeceased by one grandson, Ryder. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen (Morey) Reinhardt; siblings, Robert (Bobby), Nanette (Sissy) and Carla.

A private memorial for immediate family will be held Thursday, Nov. 13, at LOHMAN FUNERAL HOME in DeLand, Fla. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., with full military honors, to be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wounded Warrior Project in his memory.
