World War II Vet, family man
Mr. Michael (Mickey) J. Carroll, formerly of Allen Avenue, Lynn, died after a brief illness at his home in Port Orange, Fl. He was the husband of the late Catherine (Wood) Carroll, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. He was born in Lynn, the son of James M. and Mary I. (Kelly) Carroll. He graduated from St. Joseph's Institute on Green Street and from Lynn English High School in 1939. He and his late wife relocated to Port Orange, FL, in 1981.
Michael served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed at the General Electric Company in Lynn from 1946 until his retirement in 1981. He was a trained electrician and completed the Apprenticeship Program. He retired as the Manager for Turbine Testing for the Land Turbine Division of GE's Lynn plant.
Michael was an active athlete all his life. He was a championship boxer. He starting jogging at Lynn Beach long before jogging became the norm. He was a member at the Thompson Golf Club in North Reading, MA, and later a long time member at Gannon Golf Club in Lynn.
Michael was a communicant at St. Pius V Parish in Lynn where he was a Boy Scout Leader for many years. After relocating to Florida, he was a communicant at the Church of the Epiphany, Port Orange, FL.
Michael is survived by his three daughters, Mary P. King and her husband, John, of Marblehead, Joan S. Carroll and her partner Lee Sanville of Lebanon, NH, and Catherine E. Bransfield and her husband, Kirk, of Lynn. He is survived by three grandchildren Katherine King Mahan and her husband, Matthew of Marblehead, Kevin Bransfield and his wife, Sandy, of Lynn and Liam Bransfield of Lynn. He is survived by two great grandchildren, Madeline K. Mahan of Marblehead and Emma Linh Bransfield of Lynn.
