Michael Matthew McGuirk ~ "Magou" 31 Born at Halifax Hospital Daytona Beach September 8th 1980 Joined the Angels in heaven October 8th 2011

Matt left behind his loving parents Victoria & Mike McGuirk from Port Orange; his older sister Krissy & husband Jon Reed from Palm Coast; Fraternal Grandmother Louise McGuirk; Maternal Grandparents Peter & Irma Marchiony; Uncle Bob & Aunt Mazie Marchiony; cousin Nicholas & wife Michelle Marchiony; cousin Katie Marchiony; Uncle Pete & Aunt Peewee Marchiony; cousin Pete & wife Francesca Marchiony & children Donovan Kai Tatiana & Santiago; cousin Allie & husband Mo Mohamed & children Maddie & Max; Aunt Michelle & Uncle Gary Ruzicka; cousin Ted Ruzicka & fianc Kourtnie Fitzgerald; cousin Pete & wife Beth Ruzicka; and his girlfriend Michelle Duffy. We would also like to acknowledge the entire local surfing community and friends who dearly loved and supported him throughout the years.

He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1998. He worked for the Volusia County Beach Patrol Boca Raton Beach Patrol Inlet Harbor Carrabba's Clancy's Joes Crab Shack and most recently ATT where he loved his job in retail sales. He attended Jacksonville Community College & Daytona State College where he was on the surfing team last year.

Matt AKA Magou was a vibrant funny handsome & loving young man. When he entered a room his beautiful smile was so contagious and his laugh echoed loudly with joy. He was a very brave and courageous young man. When he was only 9 years old he faced his teacher who had sexually abused him & others for years. His testimony in 1989 sent this pedophile to prison for 170 years. Most people never knew that and he rarely spoke about it. In recent years he created a logo with the help of Jair Lahens. He wanted to start a foundation that would help sexually abused children so he came up with the name "Straight Up SolGier". The "G" is for "God" because he was a very spiritual person with an incredible soul. We really want to carry out his dreams so in lieu of flowers we will be asking for donations to be made out to Straight Up SolGier and mailed to his parents address at 954 Bramble Bush Circle West Port Orange FL 32127.

For those of you that would like to help us celebrate his life and say goodbye to Matt McGuirk we will be having a viewing at Lohman's Funeral Home in Ormond Beach located at 733 W. Granada Blvd. on Saturday October 15th from 11 am - 1 pm followed by a service from 1 - 2 pm.

Matt's surfer buddies will be getting everyone together at Sunglow Pier for a paddle out ceremony on Sunday October 16th at 10 am; everyone is welcome to watch from the pier if they do not paddle out.
