Obituary

Michael Scott Hovey (63), of Port Orange, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 11th, 2024 at
home after a battling liver cancer.
Michael was born March 14th, 1961 to Betty Ann Hovey and Robert Hovey at Fort Riley in Junction City,
Kansas. After Michael graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School in 1979, he went on to study
Communications at Brown Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After graduating with a degree in Radio
Broadcasting, he worked for several radio stations. Michael then decided to join the United States Navy
in 1984. He served until August 14th, 1990 as a Sonar Technician. He was proud to serve his country, and
throughout his life he would go out of his way to engage in discussions with other veterans. He returned
to Eau Claire, Wisconsin and met his wife, Carolyn Hovey. Michael and Carolyn moved to Port Orange,
Florida in 1988 to begin a new life together. After moving to Port Orange, Michael worked several sales
jobs until securing a management position with Walgreens Corporation and worked for them for 30
years.
Michael and Carolyn went on to have two children, Aaron Hovey and Alyssa Hovey-Williams (Bryson
Williams). Throughout his life, Michael was an avid sports fan. He loved attending and talking about
sports, and he collected sports memorabilia. For a couple of years, he proudly coached his son's
basketball teams through the Port Orange Recreation Center. He especially loved football, NASCAR
racing, baseball, basketball, and hockey. He treasured every opportunity to attend live sporting events
alongside his family and friends. Later he also worked as a referee and umpire for youth sports with
several companies. Michael also loved to travel. Michael and Carolyn took many beautiful trips during
their life together, as well as family vacations. Michael also loved to read and was especially interested in
history. He enjoyed visiting national battlegrounds and monuments during his travels.
Michael was predeceased by his father, Robert Hovey. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hovey, son,
Aaron Hovey, daughter, Alyssa Hovey-Williams (Bryson), his mother, Bettey Ann Hovey, his sister,
Michelle Hovey, and many more family members and friends.


A celebration of life with military honors will be held at Lohman's Funeral Home in Port Orange, Florida
on January 17th, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to
Wounded Warrior Project (WoundedWarriorProject.org) or Tunnels to Towers (T2T.org), organizations
Michael felt strongly about.
