MICHAEL G. FITZGERALD - 10/21/1948 - 4/23/2017
Michael G. Fitzgerald, 68 of Ormond Beach, Fl., formerly of Garden City, New York and Pocono Manor, Pa, peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017. Mike was born in Queens, NY and grew up in Garden City Long Island. He very proudly served 6 years in the Air Force during the Viet Nam war. When he returned, Mike worked in the building supply industry for a company based out of Long Island. He then decided that he wanted to do something totally out of the ordinary and so, he accepted a position in Saudi Arabia working as a supervisor for a large international construction company for several years. He got to travel quite a bit throughout Europe and Thailand and truly enjoyed his single years. Upon returning to New York, Mike went back to the building supply industry until his retirement in 2012.
Mike was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at different courses wherever he went. Married at the ripe old age of 42, he would tell you that he put a lot of research into finding his perfect bride. His most treasured memory and one he spoke of often, was his honeymoon in Ireland. For all his worldly travels, this was by far his favorite.
Mike was loving, caring, warm, unselfish, friendly and quite a funny guy. Loved by everyone that knew him - he leaves behind many broken hearts in his passing. He was truly a man of incredible generosity, who readily opened his heart and home to family and friends and asked for very little for himself.
Mike's parents, Eileen and Gerald Fitzgerald passed away when he was 11. He, his brother and sister were lovingly taken in and raised by his aunt and uncle, Helen and Gene Starr of New Hope, Pa., whom he referred to as Mom and Dad and to their children, MaryAnn (Garber) and Eugene Starr as brother and sister. His love and gratitude to them was eternal. Mike is also pre-deceased by his beautiful sister, Eileen Munley and his loving brother Gerald M. Fitzgerald of Doylestown, Pa. He is survived by his wife Louise and his nephew Thomas Morgello who lived with them, his brother in law, Bruno Cesarone of Buckingham, Pa and his many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins, all of which he loved dearly.
A mass of Christian Burial with military honors will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at St. Brendon's Church on Ocean Shore Blvd in Ormond Beach at 11am.
