Melvin E. Sims, 83, of Port Orange, FL was called home to meet his maker on Sunday, December 25, 2022. He was born March 18, 1939, in Bellepoint, WV to the late Russell and Lena Sims.

He joined the Navy in 1958 and served on ship as a communications technician until 1967. During that time, he met the love of his life, the late Juanita Sims, and took her hand in marriage in 1964. After service life, Melvin worked for and retired from Lanier as a service and repair technician across Brevard and Volusia counties. He was a co-founder and deacon for Victory Baptist Church in Port Orange.

Melvin was a devoted family man and is survived by his sons, Greg Sims (Chris) of Melbourne, FL; Dale Sims (Yolande) of Port Orange, FL; and daughter Linda Sims of Daytona Beach, FL. He adored his grandchildren - three beautiful granddaughters, Cheyenne, Sadie and Autumn, and grandson, Kyle. His warmth and kindness extended to family members and friends, especially treasured neighbors, Ronnie and Michele Hess of Port Orange, FL. Melvin was happiest spending time with his family, doting on his dog Sprinkles, wood working and watching old Westerns. We miss him dearly but are at peace in the knowledge he is with his beloved Juanita once again."

Service of Memory to be held 10:30 AM January 3, 2023 at Lohman Funeral Home- Port Orange. Military Honors interment to follow at 1:30 PM in the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, Florida.
