Melvin Eugene "Gene" Shields, 74, of Ormond Beach, passed away on Saturday March 5, 2016 at Halifax Health Hospice Care Center in Ormond Beach surrounded by his loving family.

A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 pm on Friday March 11, 2016 in the Chapel at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond with Chaplain Devon Jones officiating.

Gene was born on July 17, 1941 in Tampa, FL to the late Patrick and Willie Vie Shields.
He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserve and a graduate of the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. Gene moved to this area in 1989 where he was Owner of "Nature's Garden" in Ormond Beach for the past 17 years.

Gene was known for his love for family and God. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Sylvia; Daughters, Karen (Tim - deceased) Quinn of Dade City, FL; Sharon Shields of St. Petersburg, FL; Sons, David (Ana) Shields of Tampa, FL, Donnie Pace of Holly Hill, FL and Bobby (Stephanie) Pace of Ormond Beach, FL; Brother, Charles (Linda-deceased) Shields of Santa Ynez, CA; Sisters, Nancy (Phil) Ardizzone of Ocala, FL, Lulu (Charlie Canali) Lopez of Naples, FL and Sheila Shields of Tampa, FL; Six Grandchildren, Joshua Quinn(27yrs) of Boston, MA, Natalie (Shalom) Ocampo (26 yrs) of Dade City, FL, AnaMaria Shields (15 yrs) of Tampa, FL, Abbie Pace (13 yrs) of Ormond Beach, FL, Courtney Pace (9 yrs) of Holly Hill, FL and Evan Pace (8 yrs) of Ormond Beach, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Willie Vie Shields; Brothers, Louie (Mildred) Whidden of Walterburg, SC and Paul (Donna) Shields of South Daytona, FL
