Obituary

On January 24, 2021 Maureen Carter passed away suddenly in Daytona Beach, FL.  Maureen Ann Cleary was born in Lee, Massachusetts in 1946, where she graduated from Lee High School in 1964.  She moved to Florida with her family where she met her husband, Shelburne Willie Carter.  They married in December of 1967.  Maureen completed her nursing degree at Daytona Beach Junior College in 1968 and began her life as wife and mother.  She spent her career as a registered nurse in the hospital setting, a public health nurse, then found her true calling as an Oncology Nurse. Post retirement, Maureen returned to the health profession to help individuals in their homes.

Maureen was a vibrant soul; she was spunky, funky, and intelligent.  She enjoyed taking care of her family and pets, gardening, shelling, jewelry making, watching the sun rise, and making fond memories.  Maureen was loved by all, and will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her husband, Shelburne William Carter II, and her two children Joy Carter Gattshall (Scott) and Shelburne William Billy Carter III. Maureen was the oldest of four children in the family of Edward and Cecile Cleary. Her siblings Kathy Thomas (Frank), Brian Cleary (Wendy), and Cindy MacKay (Ken) survive her.  Maureen had three grandchildren; Samantha, Amanda, and Maxwell, and several nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
